Preparations for the Christmas Party start early – insights from the party guru

December 2013

  • 70% of women decided on their Christmas Party outfit in September
  • 50% of women will wear an LBD to the Christmas Party
  • The average budget for a Christmas Party outfit is £150
  • 10% booked their Christmas Party by the end of June, rising to 33% by September

While there are always the last minute present shoppers, it seems many of us have a good idea what we want to wear to the Christmas party long before the summer tan lines have faded.

Research has revealed that 7 out of 10 women have already decided on their Christmas party outfits by September, a full 3 months ahead of time.

And what’s more over 10% of party goers have already decided on and booked their Christmas party by the end of June and by September almost 1/3 of well organised partygoers will have booked their event.

The research,  by the Christmas party specialists Best Parties Ever,  reveals that the average spend on those party outfits is likely to be around £150, and while many will be indulging in complete new outfits, canny, recession savvy party goers will be recycling,  and mixing in cheaper or vintage items that can stretch that budget even further.

While 5 out of 10 women will be opting for the trusty LBD, metallics are a big trend this year with silver being the hue of choice for 10% of party girls. Other favourite style trends include ‘ankle grazing’ brocade trousers and peplums.

Party guru Tim Stevens, founder of Best Parties Ever which hosts parties for up to 1,200 people each night during the festive season says: “Our photo archive is a bit of social history – we’ve held our parties since 1999, and we see some amazing outfits every year,” says Tim. “I’m no fashion guru, but after the first few party nights, even I can tell you about the season’s trends. Its clear people put a lot of thought and planning into their Christmas party outfits. All our parties are themed and some guests are just brilliant at incorporating elements of the theme into their look for the night. Our Roaring Twenties theme went down a storm last year riding on the excitement around the Great Gatsby film and we had ladies in beautiful beaded flapper dresses and men dressed as Al Capone.”
